Lawn care tips and suggestions |
Watering Try to water early in the day if possible. Watering before the heat of the day reduces evaporation. Watering in the evening as temperatures begin to drop, encourages diseases to form. Mowing The One Third Rule: Never cut the height of your lawn by more than 1/3 at one time when mowing. Try to keep your lawn mower blade sharpened regularly. A dull mower blade tears at the grass blade causing an uneven rip across the tip. This opens the grass to possible disease infestation. Bagging Clippings To bag or not to bag is often debated among lawn care pros. Most of the time, not bagging grass clippings is better for the lawn. However, sometimes when the lawn gets too high, it is better to bag the clippings and dispose of properly (composting is the best) instead of allowing the clippings to remain on top of the grass. Otherwise, don't bag. Most grasses are made up of mostly water and they quickly decompose adding additional nutrients back into the soil.
